In 1985 I was directing traffic after one of the NCSU Basketball games and worked the field during the NCSU vs ECU game…

…as support staff to campus police.  I also policed campus and dorms during the summer break, while working for Harrell Sign Company in Raleigh.   I must have been lifted into the New York baggage at that time.  I had been to Ellicott City in Maryland, then to two concerts, one in New York and one in Washington DC.  I had also been to Pennsylvania, Washington, DC again, Alabama, Georgia, Massachusetts, and Illinois, unaware of the potential problems in becoming entangled during these trips.  While living in Virginia we traveled to Fredericksburg and Richmond.  I spent Easter of 1974 in New Jersey with a classmate from college.  I lived in various places in Greenville and Raleigh from 1973 until 1986 and visited UNC in Chapel Hill in 1972.  My father had been stationed on Long Island, Long Beach, the Philippines and Waikiki, during WWII.

The vehicle in the background of the top image is trapped on a 5 foot tree limb that floated under it after the water rose…

…the air conditioner in the wall was pushed out by the force of the water…

I have been here for 13 years and this flooding is far more extensive than previous floods, with little time to get out…

I personally am on the second floor of this complex, though I have been through a flood here in 2000.  The building I now live in has never flooded but all units flooded during this storm.  No matter how low the water may seem it can have seriously damaging effects.  Flood water should always be taken seriously.

I walked in this rushing water and it has a strong current to it.  A smaller person than I, such as a child could easily we swept away.

This shows rain still in my area at 11:10 PM but there is no rain at the moment 11:16 PM…

…I also have NOAA weather radio and it failed to come on before this recent storm arrived.  It was late in warning me of the storm.

…this is just at my building the highest building on the premises.

This building has never flooded to my knowledge.

The stick measurement was taken at about 4:00 PM.

“I believe you are a thief”…

I AM NOT A THIEF.  I WAS A SUPPORT STAFF OF FOR THE NCSU CAMPUS POLICE IN 1985 AND I DIRECTED TRAFFIC FOR ONE OF THE BASKETBALL GAMES.  GASING ME FOR SOMEONE ELSE’S GUILT.

I know what the results of that exposure is only after the fact did I find it out.  I did get some oxygen but too late I think.

B.F., you figure the rest out…
