How dates can get tangled up in the mind...

In 1971, an individual might attempt to make 1917 in the mind, into 1971 because they are living during that time period.   In 1941 one might have construed 1917 to be 1941.  Below is an example of how this might appear in the mind.  There are far more possibilities than I have shown here.
